A Popular Pet Choice

Pittman & Davis

A common saying is that there are two types of people: those who are dog lovers, and those who love cats. For the latter group, there are many reasons why they may find cats so appealing. People from all walks of life, and of all ages and backgrounds choose cats as pets for an incredibly varied number of reasons. Cats have been loved and admired by a great segment of the population for many years, reaching far back into history, and they are sure to continue being one of the most popular pet choices that people have. One of the main reasons that so many people love cats is simply because they are cute. They are usually relatively small, and generally have fluffy fur that comes in a variety of colors and styles. Particularly when they are kittens, cats are very adorable and entertaining to watch scamper around. Many cats are quite playful, too, which adds to their appeal since they can provide amusement for their owners. Some cats have long, lustrous and puffy fur. Others have short, spikier kinds of fur. It can be striped, spotted or patchy depending on the breed of cat. One drawback to cats is that some people are highly allergic to their fur – or, more particularly, their dander. If someone is allergic to cats, they might even have a hard time being in a house where cats live, let alone in the same room. For this reason, if you own cats and are expecting company, you really should make sure that none of your expected guests is allergic to your furry friends. Otherwise, they might be in for quite an unpleasant surprise. Cats are also considered to be good pets because they are incredible clean and neat. They groom themselves constantly, and abhor being dirty. You rarely have to worry about having a cat which is messy, filthy or smelly. Also, they like to keep their environment neat; they are trained to use litter boxes, and it is very uncommon for a cat to have an accident in an inappropriate place in the house. Cats even groom other cats, on occasion, which is a cute and funny thing to witness. People are also fond of cats because they are very independent. They can pretty much take care of themselves, and do not require a lot of work. In fact, one of the few complaints a cat owner might make is that their cat does not seem to want to have anything to do with them! It is just the nature of most cats, though, to prefer to be on their own. They all have their lovable, cuddly moments though, and when those occur they can be absolutely wonderful. Finally, some people like to keep cats in the house because they are intrepid and very successful hunters. If you have a rodent problem, for example, owning a cat is a great idea. Cats will hunt, catch and kill rodents and other small pests with incredible ease and agility. This is another example of the wonderful aspects of cat ownership.
