I was very excited about this food when I ordered it. It sounded wonderful. My dog is big, and was eating 5 to 6 cups of grocery store dog food when I adopted him. I started him out with 1/4 cup of Halo to 2 3/4 cups old food. He seemed fine. I gradually increased it and ordered another bag after about 10 days. It takes 5 to 8 days to ship and I did not want to run out once I had him accustomed to it. Then he started getting diarrhea. He also had a lot of flakes on his skin and was licking his paw. (possible allergy symptoms). I stopped the food and went to chicken and rice and he was fine in 24 hours. In fact his stool was perfect. It occurred to me that it was too rich, and I started adding Halo again, but with 1/8 Th a cup. I thought this time I would never give him over a 50 50 mix and see if that worked. I looked on the Internet at that time and found August and September, 2010 posts, where people mentioned problems with their dogs on Halo. Some were from long time users. They mentioned a formula change and the pea protein. The pea protein is a major ingredient. I emailed the company and asked about a formula change and if any ingredient was from China. I never received a reply. In two days without Halo my dog had a normal stool again. I added veggies and beef to the brown rice. I gave him fruits as a treat. In 3 days I noticed much more energy and zest for life. He is like a new dog. I think his skin has all ready improved. I can’t say the food is the problem, but I will never use it again. I am going to try another premium dog food and see how that works. I will continue to use wholesome cooked food and fruits as a supplement to his dog food diet.

A friend started using Spot’s Stew, so I tried it. My dogs love it. I have also purchased the canned to mix with the dry and they especially love that. (In fact, so much that I made a big mistake! Now they want BOTH mixed all the time).
I must be REALLY good, as my cats, who ONLY eat THEIR food have taken a huge interest in the dry food! I catch them eating it and ignoring their own dry food.
Any “good” dog food comes with a higher price…and I did notice that Spot’s Stew has gone up a little in price. But then again, hasn’t everything.
I recommend this food and like that there are truly vegetables in it…having a dog with cancer, I’m trying to keep his diet as nutritious as possible and for now, this is fitting the bill perfectly.
