Pets Best Insurance Reports its Top Most Costly Pet Insurance Claims

Pet insurance can substantially reduce out-of-pocket costs when caring for a sick pet.

Boise, ID (PRWEB) May 22, 2012

Pets Best Insurance says the sky high pet insurance claim submissions the company continues to see are a testament to the continual strengthening of the pet-owner bond.

“People who love their pets will do anything for them,” Pets Best Insurance President and Founder Dr. Jack Stephens said. “Vet costs are on the rise because pet owners are willing to spend almost any amount to save their pets. But with pet insurance, the out-of-pocket cost can be substantially decreased, which may make pet health care more affordable.”

Pets Best Insurance has identified some of the highest claims it has received over the past year that cost pet owners $ 10,000 or more at the veterinarian. Pets Best Insurance paid a flat percentage of each, up to their allowable limits. Some of the most expensive claims this year included:

Car Accident- Pets Best Insurance received a claim for over $ 55,000 for a dog that was hit by a car and kept on life support for two weeks. The dog sustained fractures but is reportedly doing well!

Wobbler’s Syndrome- This condition of the vertebrae causes a wobbly gait and weakness in dogs and some other animals. This claim came in at an astonishing $ 21,580.82 as the disease tends to gradually progress and X-rays, MRIs, steroids and surgery to correct the spinal cord compression is often necessary.

Cancer- Next on the list is a form of cancer called Meningioma, which came in at a whopping $ 15,533.

Intervertebral Disc Disease- This disease is a “slipped disk” in the spinal cord that often renders an animal unable to move or feel sensation in their limbs. CT scans, MRIs and surgery are generally all necessary. This claim came into Pets Best Insurance at nearly $ 14,400.

Endocarditis- This condition is an inflammation on the inside lining of the heart chambers and valves. A pet owner submitted a claim for over $ 11,000.

“Pet insurance that pays a flat percentage of the vet bill like we do, allows pet owners to provide the best health care to their pets without worrying about financial strain or having to consider euthanasia for economic reasons,” Dr. Stephens said. “It helps pet owners focus on their pets in time of stress, instead of focusing on their bank accounts.”
