Skeletor is Declared ‘Best Cartoon Villain’ of the 80’s

North Huntingdon, PA (PRWEB) October 5, 2006 today released the results of the much-awaited online poll to select the “Best Cartoon Villain of the 80s”. According to Kevin Stecko, Owner of, “The intent of the poll was to designate a ranking system for the most evil archenemies of the cartoon superheroes of the 1980’s. Villains in cartoons such as He-Man, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, GI Joe, The Smurfs, ThunderCats, and Strawberry Shortcake were all in the running for the most evil cartoon villain of the decade.”

Predictably, Skeletor, the arch nemesis of He-Man, won in a landslide with votes that totaled more than 24% of votes collected. The top two runners-up were, Megatron, leader of the Decepticons from Transformers, capturing a respectable 19.7% of the vote, and fellow evil doer, Shredder, the villainous ninja master who battled the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who managed to walk away with 18.2%.

He-Man fans now have the unique opportunity to really come through and show their support by continuing to put Skeletor down, despite his recent award, with a “He-Man is the COOLEST” T-shirt – $ 20 from

Other respectable candidates included Cobra Commander, the ruthless terrorist leader pitted against G.I. Joe (16.1%) and Gargamel, the perpetual foe of the Smurfs, (8.8%). As the list continues, more cartoon villains from the 80s resurface, conjuring up old memories of evil antagonists who were always aiming to destroy the characters that we have all grown to love.

The next villain on the list was Mumm-Ra, the undead channel of the Ancient Spirits of Evil from the ThunderCats coming in just behind Gargamel at 8.4 %.

In a surprising twist, a long shot was selected for seventh place, The Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak. Constantly kidnapping people, pets, and recipes while tormenting Strawberry Shortcake and her gang, this bad boy and his purple hat scraped up only 3% of the vote. The Strawberry Shortcake community can be seen in the “Kick Back Strawberry Shortcake” T-shirt from while Pieman is off basking in the glory of this unexpected cartoon villain acknowledgment.

The race for last place was quite heated. Ironically, Hordak, the one time mentor of this competition’s winner, Skeletor, scrounged up less than 2% of the votes. She-Ra obviously did not have as tough of a villain as her twin brother He-Man. The other sad villain that also only claimed less than 2% was Lotor, Prince of Doom, responsible for terrorizing the inhabitants of Planet Arus in Voltron.

Although it was the villains that were voted on in this poll, it is clear that the heroes from these cartoons are the ones that inspire the world to do better. Whether it is wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or GI Joe T-shirt from, or helping little old ladies across the street, these villains teach us to lead a more meaningful life by helping others or supporting those who make it their priority.
